My friend Coby rang up the other night experiencing extreme over reactivity to some acupuncture she had earlier that day. Her acupuncturist in good faith noticed her cortisol levels were low and suggested she need her adrenals boosted. When Coby told me, my thoughts were at that time, ‘was that wise?’ and I let it go.
Coby was explaining that her body wouldn’t settle down and that she was feeling very much on edge. Her skin was itchy and her body shaking and she felt extremely anxious. More on Adrenal Fatigue
Toning Down the Adrenal System
It was time to act and act fast and instructions were given to her over the phone and via text message on how to tone down her adrenal system.
Within the hour, I received a phone call from Coby saying how good she felt and how quickly her symptoms subsided in response to the instructions I had given her.
Let me explain something, I have read on FB where a lot of people are experiencing adrenal fatigue symptoms. They seem to want to find products that will boost their adrenal system mainly in the form of supplements or drugs but they need to understand why the adrenal system is over reacting in the first place. It is adrenal overload and one sure sign is over tight calf muscles. There is a simple process you can do yourself that will help this immensely. All you have to do is learn how to tone down your adrenal glands..
Adrenal Gland Function For Over Tight Calf Muscles
Most people who have adrenal exhaustion also have overly tight muscles in general and especially their leg and feet muscles. These muscles require re-setting or lengthening. This is NOT a muscle stretching exercise.
Let me explain, the muscles of the feet are the primary activators for adrenal function. This is part of the fight/flight coding of the neurology for survival.
In an ideal world, when the body is in a sitting position your adrenal system should be almost stationary yet ready to act when required. When the body starts to get up and move it sends a message to the brain letting it know the body wants to move and to activate the adrenal hormones. This is done by applying downward pressure by your big toe (flexor hallucis longus muscle) followed by the four smaller toes (flexor brevis) which are also associated with adrenal function. The aim is to give your body an energy boost (adrenal hormones) to stand and walk or run if needed when in danger.
Over stimulated neural signals from the stressed and over tight muscles of the feet and legs can disrupt the amount of hormones that your pituitary gland tells your adrenal glands to produce.
Proprioceptor bunching coming from constricted and shortened muscles fibres especially in your feet and legs can cause the adrenals to produce too much hormone even while in a sitting or lying position.
Recovery Exercises For Over Tight Calf Muscles
If this has been happening to you and your feet muscles are sore and aching you probably have adrenal overload. Many people have dropped arches in their feet and this is a sure sign of adrenal stress overload. What is truly required is simple recovery exercises for the resetting of proprioceptor or muscle spindle cells within the muscle.
The calf muscle (gastrocnemius muscle) is the secondary switch for the adrenals. When your body is in walking mode, this is telling your brain to keep the adrenal hormones flowing. So if you have lower leg muscles that are tense and overly tight, your brain is getting the message to keep the adrenals active. Over time this also leads to adrenal exhaustion.
The third muscle in the system is the soleus muscle. This allows your foot to move up and down in the function of waking/running. There are other muscles associated with the adrenal system yet the ones mentioned will be the ones used in toning down an over reactive adrenal system which leads to adrenal fatigue.
